Angioedema Control Test (AECT) - non-commercial use

- Order number: MOX10021
The Angioedema Control Test (AECT) is a validated, user-friendly instrument (Patient Reported Outcome Measure) to assess disease control in patients with recurrent angioedema. The AECT can be used in patients with histamine-mediated, bradykinin-mediated and idiopathic recurrent angioedema.
The AECT is a retrospective instrument and can be evaluated directly, quickly and easily. The cut-off value of 10 points helps to distinguish patients with poorly controlled recurrent angioedema from patients with well controlled disease.
The AECT was developed at the Charité by a team led by Dr. Karsten Weller and Dr. Marcus Maurer. Initially, a long list of potential AECT questions was developed with the involvement of patients, experts and the current literature. All potential AECT questions were then evaluated using various methods (e.g. impact analysis) and the number of questions was reduced to a total of four. The final version of the AECT was then tested for validity and reliability in a validation study. Further details on the development of the AECT can be found in the AECT publications listed below.
Quick Facts AECT:
Number of questions: 4
Target group: Adults (older than 18 years) with all forms of recurrent angioedema
Survey: Retrospective (recall period: 4 weeks or 3 months)
Evaluation: Simple sum score (0-16 points)
Cutoff value: 10 points (<10 points corresponds to poorly controlled disease)
